A thousand filled & tamped bags can allow you to build a solid structure, up to about 12' x 12' (external dimensions) with 8' high ceilings & 12" thick walls. Actual structural dimensions and bags required for your project depend on how much fill you put in your bags, type of fill, whether your ceilings will be higher or lower than 8 feet, as well as how many bags aren’t used, based on the sizes & numbers of doors, windows, and other openings you plan to have.
These 6-month standard polypropylene bags are treated with 1600 hour UVI, which works out to an average lifespan of about 6 months. They'll hold up to about 50 lbs. You don't want to overfill them, because then they become fat round sausages that won't tamp flat. It's best to fill your bags no more than about 2/3 - 3/4 full.
There are lots of cheaper bags on the internet. We've been at this for 10 years, tried a lot of bags and long ago settled on these as offering the highest quality (strength, tight weave, stitching, good UV resistance, etc.) at a reasonable price.
Free shipping is only in quantities of 1,000. Weight of a bale is about 75 lbs. Dimensions of a bale, as pictured, are about 28"L x 16"W x 18" H (sometimes they'll arrive in two boxes). The bags themselves are tubular woven, 850 denier, 10x10 psi weave, and double-stitched on the bottom seam. They come with tie strings and in your choice of four colors (classic white, hi-viz orange, dark forest green & desert tan).
You must have or arrange a physical address for delivery; because of the size and weight, these don’t ship to PO boxes. Shipping is via UPS (average 4-7 business days). Free shipping is only for the lower 48 and is not available to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico or abroad. If you buy them in the US & try to take them across a border, be prepared to pony up duty fees.
If you don't have a physical address or if you live out in the boonies where UPS doesn't deliver, emall us. We work with off-gridders, help work out creative delivery solutions, and we follow your shipment until it's safely in your hands.
